It’s been another six months of growth for the D2 Rail team. Our leadership team has grown by one with the addition Steve Cooper who is leading our newly formed Utilities division.
We have had some new additions to the teams, completed our scope of works on a number of projects and had some fantastic opportunities to present some of our research and development work.
Our teams have been consistently recognised for their great work on the TRU West of Leeds project, racking up five recognition nominations for Chloe Brown, Glen Staunton, Rebecca Mercer, Sarah Barnes and Simon Blair on the project. In addition, huge congratulations to Alesha Hancock on winning Employee of the Period for her hard work, dedication and skill in providing Planning support to the Site Investigation and Ground Investigation survey teams.
We have also played our part in the successful reopening of Liverpool Lime Street towards the end of last year. Rebecca Mercer from our Information Management team has delivered significant benefit to the project by making sure the DPE (Designated Project Engineer) and team from Network Rail have been supported throughout the final blockade. We have had some great feedback regarding Rebecca’s work from the Network Rail teams’.
In November last year, our Project Controls team welcomed a new recruit in Neeraj Ajit Sukumaran. Neeraj is a versatile and results driven professional with over five years’ experience in planning, managing and delivering projects on time and to budget. Neeraj has been a positive addition to Dave Harwood’s TRU Project Controls team.
The Visualisation team have been busy delivering a number of 4D animations for projects such as Coventry Nuckle and Nottingham Canal. Our clients have remarked on the high quality of the rendering and animations which simulate real-world camera effects. We are already in talks regarding the next piece of work they would like us to produce.
Our Utilities Management service offering has now been added to both the D2 Rail website and our other collateral, in order to promote this specialism which offers the management and coordination of utility diversions and consultancy services for any scheme that has the requirement for utility infrastructure.
Some of our bravest team members took on Snowden in a monster hike maintaining our healthy body, healthy mind mantra. The wider team took part in a step challenge themed on Lord of Rings. After a competitive six weeks of stepping, teams made the journey from the Shire to Mordor, collectively clocking up over 6 million steps which is over 3 thousand miles. At D2 Rail we try to promote health and wellbeing on a daily basis. The step challenge not only promotes team work, but also good health.
The BIM and Visualisations teams have spent the past six months focusing on innovation. The teams have recently been given the opportunity to present their research and development projects to rail industry leads and the wider Network Rail team at the P3M away day, showcasing our VR capability within our Interactive Media Suite. We have had some fantastic feedback from Network Rail regarding the presentation and are currently in discussions regarding future development and innovation projects.
We have also had some new additions to the TRU West of Leeds project, Mike Rawson supporting the GRIP 4 works, Sarah Barnes supporting the Collaboration working groups, Ashley Williams supporting the Engineering Excellence group and Joe McClements supporting the TRU West of Leeds Planning team.
After a busy 6 months, we would like to say a huge thank you to the team for all their hard work and dedication to both the business and the projects. We have many exciting development areas and further growth plans for our teams in 2019 and look forward to sharing this with you in our next newsletter.
