D2 Rail’s company structure ensures the implementation of BIM as a fundamental practice for all client engagements. From concept design to completion, the company values the use of BIM and looks to achieve a Level 2 compliance status on all projects. Alongside projects completed within the business, D2 Rail offers support externally, providing guidance in BIM practices and techniques across the industry.
The introduction of BIM on any project, should only be seen as a positive step to creating an industry where collaborative working and intelligent design is common practice. The implementation of these practices can see a change in the approach to design, yet the output of such will reflect savings in time and money. We at D2 Rail actively encourage working in a BIM environment and to such extent, are passionate in its use and aiding other businesses in its advantages.
Our in house CAD team offers support in a multitude of 2D & 3D design packages. From Autodesk to Bentley, D2 Rail holds the capability to aid clients in a variety of different projects. A key part of our core values is ensuring that all design work carried out on a project is BIM Level 2 compliant. Adopting BIM techniques in design, allows for a more dynamic way of working, utilising the ability to work collaboratively and creating a unified approach to the delivery of a project. This can be seen in the use of data management systems such as ProjectWise, bringing designs together in a federated model, for such uses that span from Inter Disciplinary Check (IDC)/Inter Disciplinary Review (IDR) to Signal Sighting reviews.
Along with combined models, the introduction of BIM practices can aid with additional design features such as the use of 4D construction sequences. Ensuring that the creation and production of 3D designs is produced within the BIM environment, allows a seamless integration with 4D packages such a Synchro. This managed input allows for dynamic production of 4D construction sequences, utilising advanced tools without increased cost & time to a project.
D2 Rail has a wealth of experience in the production and delivery of Visualisations. Using Visualisations and Animations, we support the delivery of major client programmes and projects of mixed complexity. The support of visualisations alongside BIM, creates an environment of equal understanding throughout a programme. Our mission is to provide Visuals to support the understanding of a project for those who are not familiar with design information. This can be seen in many forms including Visual imagery, Photomontages, Construction animations and training material.
At D2 Rail we are always looking to the future. Part of this is the introduction of Virtual Reality (VR) in our society. VR capabilities are already being extended in to modern day work practices and we are engaging with clients to provide this support. Bespoke software provides the opportunity to take engineering designs, into a virtual environment. Using VR headsets alongside this provides our clients with the many immersive advantages Virtual Reality creates today.
D2 Rail are able to offer support in the delivery of Consents Submissions under BIM Guidelines. D2 Rail are continuing to work and develop our clients CAD and Information Management structures, to ensure they are working within the BIM Level 2 requirements. Ensuring all CAD models are generated and maintained within these guidelines, D2 Rail aid in the delivery of CAD drawings inclusive of Elevations, Plans, Limits of Deviation and Heritage works. The management of the Models and Drawings is further ensured with the structured approach of a Common Data Environment (CDE). D2 Rail support the management of these systems with the support of our Information Management team. The adoption of the CDE is not only a critical stage under BIM Level 2 requirements, it also improves the ability to control and manage the workflow of the models.
